QTPOC Writers Workshop FAQ Square.png

Who is eligible to apply for this workshop?
This workshop is intended for people of color who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer, Two Spirit, Trans, Genderqueer, Gender Non-Conforming, and/or Non-Binary.

I’m not really a writer. I write sometimes, but just for myself. I haven't published anything, and I don't usually share my writing with anyone. Can I join?
Yes, boo! This workshop is definitely for you.  Writers need not have prior experience (written, published, or shared work). Your life, your story, and your voice is experience enough! We'll work on gaining the courage and confidence to identify as writers, regardless of what we produce. If you haven't yet felt comfortable sharing your words with the world, this is a great place to start.

What kind of writing will we be doing?
Whatever kind of writing calls you! We will be reading and sharing work across genres: poetry, short-story, film, memoir, essay, fiction, non-fiction, and hybrid.

How many hours (outside of the workshop) will I be expected to work?
Each week we'll be reading and critiquing each other's work, so you are expected to set aside enough time to give thoughtful attention to someone else's writing, and to provide generous (in terms of quality, not quantity) feedback. This group is rigorous, and intentionally so. We're building healthy habits that will last us a lifetime. Your effort is proportionate to your benefit.

If I'm accepted into the workshop, can I pay in installments?
You're welcome to pay the $280 workshop fee in installments, as long as you pay in full by our first workshop (August 1st.)

Are there scholarships available?
I'm gladly able to offer discounted workshop fee for a limited number of participants, thanks to the generosity of folks who have donated to make registration fee less burdensome.

I'd like to support a scholarship. How can I get money to you?
Thank you so much! You can send donations via PayPal (jamilareddy@gmail.com) - please select "Send to Friends and Family," Venmo (jamila.reddy), or Cash App ($JamilaReddy). Please write "QTPOC WRITING WORKSHOP" in the subject line/message.
